PARYUSHAN PARVA
For various reasons, Jainism and Paryushan have become a lot about food. All the focus is sometimes on what we can eat and what we cannot eat.
But Jainism was never supposed to be only about food.
It was also supposed to be about how to elevate your soul. Be it through eating the right food or through meditation.
These 8 days of Paryushan are for the same purpose.
8 days of all the 365 days to think about your soul. Abstinence from food or water is just a part of it.
The most important thing which most of us have conveniently forgotten is the abstinence from the outer world.
To think about the soul.
To quench the thirst and satiate the hunger of this soul.
To go within.
To break from your routine of dealing with this outside world and embark on a voyage to discover a more amazing world inside.
These 8 days are for the cleansing of your mind and soul.
Abstinence is a must – abstinence from hatred, anger, worry, pain and all those negative emotions that have clouded the purity of your inner being.
So I want to thank this festival of Paryushan today. For being the festival of soul.
For celebrating the inner being.
For helping me to disconnect to form a more profound connection.
For bridging the gap between me and my soul !
